Uganda appoints Nigerian business leader to attract credible investors

In a significant move toward pan-African unity, Uganda’s ruling party has appointed Dr. Odera Ozoka, a young Nigerian entrepreneur, as the Special Mobilizer for Credible Investors.

The appointment, made by Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, has been described by Ozoka as representative of Uganda’s commitment to attracting African talent and diaspora investment to foster continental development.

Expressing his gratitude for the opportunity in a statement, Dr. Ozoka said, “I am Nigerian, but I am also African who grew up in the United States, so I will always look for opportunities to invest not only in Nigeria but across Africa.

“My experience in Uganda has been an eye-opener. The people are so optimistic about their government’s ability to deliver on their mandate, and they have so much faith in the President; it is inspiring,” he said,
highlighting his optimism about the Ugandan government’s goals and the faith citizens have in President Museveni.

Dr. Ozoka’s multicultural background and existing networks in North America and extensive business experience in the United States position him well to attract significant investments, as he embodies a new generation of African leaders who promote cross-border collaboration, the statement notes.

His role will support President Museveni’s empowerment initiatives, including various funds aimed at engaging Uganda’s youth and women ahead of upcoming elections.

He is also partnering with Dr. Sharon Nagenjwa, a Ugandan entrepreneur mobilising women for the elections, to further strengthen the initiative, aligning investment with women’s empowerment.

Commenting on the appointment, Hajjat Hadijah-Namialo, the President’s Chief Mobilizer, noted that Dr. Ozoka’s appointment reflects confidence in grassroots engagement, aiming to ensure that the President’s initiatives reach all demographics in Uganda.

“Dr. Ozoka’s appointment signifies a new chapter in pan-African cooperation, where successful entrepreneurs transcend national boundaries to create value across multiple markets. His role is seen as pivotal in setting a precedent for other African nations looking to engage diaspora talent and investment,” the statement concludes.
