Mohammed pledges UN’s commitment to Kano in realising SDGs

United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, has promised to support the Kano State government in accomplishing its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Besides, she pledged to address social challenges, especially in the areas of health, education, agriculture, power, digital and public infrastructure.

Mohammed made the commitment when she paid a courtesy visit to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Government House, Kano, yesterday.

She was in the ancient city, en route to Daura, Katsina State, where she offered condolences to the family of the late President Muhammadu Buhari.

The former Minister of Environment said Kano remains a strategic centre of production activities with a large young population, adding that her visit was to advance workable solutions to address challenges crippling the state.

She lauded several of Governor Yusuf’s people-focused initiatives, particularly those that aligned with the SDGs.

Mohammed said her visit was not only to condole, but also to deepen advocacy on the SDGs and strengthen collaboration with Kano State. Kabir Yusuf expressed the state’s readiness for strategic partnerships with UN agencies in Nigeria, especially in the areas of education, healthcare, climate change, renewable energy, environmental protection, and sustainable investment.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to advancing development policies that improve the quality of life for the people of Kano and contribute meaningfully to global development efforts.
