Two die in Oyo auto crash

Two middle-aged persons have been crushed to death by an articulated vehicle in Fiditi town, Afijio Local Council of Oyo State. According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred on Sunday evening on the new Ibadan/Oyo Expressway in the council.

The eyewitnesses said that the victims were returning from their trip to Ibadan when the unfortunate incident happened. Besides, it was gathered that the motorcyclist died on the spot, while the second person that was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, gave up the ghost a few hours later.

“The driver of the trailer was trying to avoid the potholes, and in the process, ran over the victims.

“The victims were a man and a woman. The man died immediately while the woman was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, but she also died a few hours later,” an eyewitness told journalists yesterday.

Meanwhile, the state’s Deputy Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (Operations), Bayode Olugbesan, has confirmed the incident. Olugbesan said: “Only one person was pronounced dead on Sunday, but the command has embarked on a hospital follow-up because the road safety officials cannot confirm that an accident victim is dead until a doctor certifies that.”
