The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) on Monday released its Mid-Year Activity Report for January to June 2025, highlighting key emergency response statistics and operational successes. The report revealed that 62 persons died in the 1,072 incidents responded to.
In a statement by Maria Fadairo, Senior Public Affairs Officer of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the agency reported that in the first half of 2025, the LSFRS responded to a total of 1,072 emergency incidents.
These incidents comprised 922 fire calls, two minor explosion incidents, 10 building collapses (eight of which were partial), 73 rescue operations, and 65 salvage incidents. The report also noted a staggering 315 false emergency calls, emphasising the persistent challenge posed by non-genuine emergencies.
During this period, the service commendably rescued 252 individuals from perilous situations, including fires and building collapses. Regrettably, 62 fatalities were recorded.
The swift and decisive actions of the LSFRS were instrumental in protecting property across Lagos State. However, an estimated ₦64.32 billion in property value was saved, while losses were estimated at ₦10.72 billion.
The Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, noted that the figures demonstrate her agency’s effectiveness in contributing to the gross domestic product while minimising damage, safeguarding lives, environments and assets throughout the state.
Adeseye added that the agency is proactively engaging stakeholders across the state to address the menace of fire outbreaks. These efforts will be further strengthened during the upcoming Y2025 International Fire Safety Conference 2.0, where collaborative strategies for enhancing fire safety and emergency response will be further discussed.
