Tinubu sets Q1 2026 deadline for national single window take-off

President Bola Tinubu has directed the National Single Window (NSW) Steering Committee to ensure that the platform becomes fully operational by the first quarter of 2026.

The directive was conveyed during the fifth steering committee meeting held on Tuesday at the State House, Abuja. The President was represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Gbajabiamila said the recent Tax Reform Acts signed into law in June underscored the urgency of accelerating economic reforms to achieve Nigeria’s $1 trillion economy target. He stressed the importance of financial and trade reforms as pillars of national economic transformation.

“It’s important that we remain focused on this project so we meet our timelines and deliver the results the President expects,” Gbajabiamila said.

“As you know, this is one of Mr. President’s key transformative initiatives. We all have a duty to ensure its effective and commendable implementation.”
He noted that the National Single Window, a unified electronic platform for import and export operations, will enhance transparency, boost investment, increase trade revenues, and strengthen Nigeria’s global business reputation.
Gbajabiamila urged all agencies involved to refine their targets and key performance indicators (KPIs) to meet the Phase 1 rollout deadline.
“I expect that since our last meeting on April 8, 2025, all stakeholders have actively worked toward meeting the set KPIs to ensure we go live with Phase 1 in Q1 2026 as scheduled,” he added.

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, described the progress as encouraging but stressed the need to shift from strategy to execution. He acknowledged the project’s complexity but reaffirmed its transformational potential.
Edun urged the committee to intensify collaboration and resolve remaining hurdles to meet the rollout timeline.

Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, also charged the committee to maintain focus and deliver on the Q1 2026 deadline without fail.
Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, thanked the President for his unwavering support.

“On behalf of the steering committee, thank you for the relentless support you’ve shown,” Adedeji said.

“The reward for hard work is more work. What began last month is now enshrined in law, the Single Window is now a legal mandate.”

He urged committee members to remain committed to the task ahead.
Providing a technical update, Director of the National Single Window Project, Tola Fakolade, reported that all key project milestones for Q2 2025 had been achieved, and the platform’s customisation phase has commenced.

He expressed confidence that the committee would meet the project’s implementation timeline.

The National Single Window project is a Federal Government digital trade facilitation initiative aimed at streamlining Nigeria’s import and export processes through a centralised electronic platform.

Launched in April 2024, the NSW seeks to consolidate all agencies involved in cross-border trade into a unified portal to reduce costs, eliminate delays, and improve transparency and efficiency at Nigerian ports.

Committee members include representatives from the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, FIRS, and the Nigeria Customs Service.
