NCAA tasks Int’l airlines on compliance with currency declaration policy

Says domestic airlines refunded over N1b to 5,285 passengers

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has again reminded international airlines of the need to strictly comply with currency declaration requirements for inbound passengers.

A statement by the Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, stated: “The NCAA reminds all international airlines operating inbound flights to Nigeria to strictly comply with the provisions of the directive concerning the declaration requirements for inbound passengers.”

The NCAA stressed that the cooperation of all international airlines operating in Nigeria is critical to supporting the country’s efforts to align with global financial standards. It, therefore, warned that compliance will be closely monitored, and non-compliant airlines would face appropriate sanctions.

Meanwhile, the Authority has said that domestic airlines refunded N1.03 billion to passengers within three months. The NCAA, which announced this via its X handle, added that the ticket refunds were made between April and June.

Achimugu, who stated that the ticket refund compliance remains a key pillar of the agency’s consumer protection agenda, said that violations include failure to refund passengers within the stipulated time frame, non-responsiveness to authority’s directives, incidents of missing and manhandled luggage, short-landed baggage, and issues relating to flight delays and cancellations.
