Lawmaker condemns killing of Benue youth, demands justice

Disturbed by a recent act of violence in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State, Senator Jarigbe Agom has strongly condemned the gruesome murder of a young man from Tsar Community in Benue State, calling for urgent action from security agencies to restore peace and ensure justice.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Senator Jarigbe, who represents Cross River North Senatorial District, described the killing as “barbaric, senseless, and wholly unacceptable.”

The victim, according to the senator, was an unarmed civilian going about his lawful business when he was attacked and killed by irate youths.

“This is a tragic and unjustifiable crime that must be met with the full wrath of the law,” Jarigbe stated.

The senator called on the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) to swiftly apprehend those responsible and increase the presence of security personnel in the area to prevent further violence.

He also urged both Obudu and Tsar community leaders to come together for dialogue aimed at de-escalating tensions and fostering lasting peace.

“Cross River North and Benue communities have coexisted peacefully for generations, intermarrying, trading, and sharing deep social ties.

“We must not allow the actions of a few to destroy the harmony that has bound us for decades,” he said.

Senator Jarigbe appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid retaliatory actions, warning that further violence would only escalate the crisis.

“My heartfelt condolences go to the bereaved family and the entire Tsar community. I assure them that I will work tirelessly with all relevant authorities to ensure justice is served,” he added.

The senator reaffirmed his commitment to peace, justice, and the security of all constituents within the Cross River North Senatorial District.
