2027: ADC vows to make votes count

Contrary to notions held in certain quarters, the coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has assured that votes by the electorate would count in the 2027 poll.

The former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Engr. Babachir Lawal, who chaired the 3rd expanded meeting of the National Political Consultative Group (North) held in Abuja on Saturday, assured that the coalition would leave no stone unturned in achieving the objective.

“There’s nobody in ADC leadership or rank and file who believes that votes do not count. Votes do count. And we are going to make sure that votes do count. This election, votes will count. I tell you, forget about those saying that votes will not count,” Lawal said while briefing reporters on the outcome of the meeting.

“APC is a party of Nigerians. ADC is one. So, whatever techniques, whatever malicious activity they throw at us, we’ll counter them effectively. And we’ll counter and defeat them at it.”

Lawal remarked that the coalition would ensure the election of a President who prioritises the interests of the North and addresses the challenges of insecurity, poverty, and infrastructural decay facing the region.

He assured that the coalition would not relent in mobilising the support of Nigerians of Northern descent, from top to bottom, to unseat the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration in the 2027 election.

He added: “Well, the truth of the matter is that we started as what we call a Consultative Forum for Northern politicians, but as the momentum was going on, it appears that the whole of the North has decided that they will join ADC.

“So our people have encouraged us, have directed us, and have mandated us to organise ourselves in the manner that we deliver whatever we want through the ADC.”

The Adamawa-born politician pledged the support of the Northern Political Consultative Group to the eventual presidential candidate of the ADC.
