Applications have officially opened for the 2025 edition of the PRNigeria Young Communication Fellowship (YCF), a media training programme designed to empower emerging Nigerian communicators with ethical, digital, and strategic skills in journalism and public relations.
Now in its second year, the fellowship is an initiative of Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR), publishers of PRNigeria and Spokesperson’s Digest. It has received the endorsement of several major professional bodies including the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC), and the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism.
With the theme “Truth, Trust & Technology: Strengthening National Stability through Media, Security, and Strategic Communication”, the 2025 programme aims to deepen the professional competence of young Nigerian graduates through an intensive one-month curriculum.
The training will take place across three key PRNigeria centres: Kano in September, Ilorin in October, and Abuja in November. Each location will host participants for two weeks of in-person mentorship, hands-on media projects, and professional engagement sessions.
Topics to be covered include media ethics, digital safety, crisis communication, cyber hygiene, innovation in media, fact-checking, and regulatory frameworks. According to organisers, the fellowship also promotes civic responsibility and national consciousness.
PRNigeria CEO, Yushau Shuaib, noted that the fellowship seeks to go beyond technical proficiency. “This initiative aims not just to sharpen technical skills, but to instil integrity, responsibility, and national consciousness in every participant,” he said.
To be eligible, applicants must be Nigerian graduates aged between 20 and 30, have completed their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), reside in or near one of the host cities, and demonstrate a strong interest in media or communication.
Applications open on Monday, July 28, and close on Monday, August 8, 2025. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for further assessment.
Programme Lead, Dahiru Lawal, encouraged young professionals to take advantage of the fellowship, which he described as a “rare mentorship and skill-building platform to shape careers and contribute to national development through ethical communication.”
