The city of Barking came alive this past weekend as it played host to the inaugural Elevatech Summit London 2025, a gathering that marked a major step forward in the movement to democratize tech careers and education.

Held under the theme “Innovating the Future: Careers, Education & Tech,” the flagship event convened more than 100 tech professionals, career changers, students, and innovators from across London and beyond. The summit offered a moment of clarity and inspiration for those navigating the ever-evolving digital landscape.

The event was graced by the presence of Her Worshipful Madam Mayor, Councillor Princess Opeyemi Bright, Mayor of Barking and Dagenham. In a heartfelt and empowering address, the Mayor shared her personal journey from the tech sector into civic leadership, highlighting how skills honed in technology had equipped her to lead effectively in public service.

“Events like Elevatech Summit are vital for inspiring, upskilling, and connecting our residents to the future of work,” said Councillor Bright. “I’m proud to support initiatives that drive innovation and inclusion across the borough.”

The summit featured a dynamic mix of keynote speeches, panel discussions, and intimate conversations — each one designed to challenge perspectives and foster growth.

Adebayo Jacobs-Amoo (known widely as Teapot) delivered a standout keynote, “Futureproofing Your Career: Adapting to the Age of AI.” His session encouraged attendees to move beyond fear and embrace the transformative potential of AI through intentional action and strategic thinking.

In panel session one, speakers, including Sadeeq Akintola, Dr. Iretioluwa Akerele, Bukola Omokehinde, Olatunji Fagbore, and Moses Olafenwa opened up about their personal and professional journeys. Their candid reflections on the highs and lows of building tech careers resonated deeply, reminding attendees that success is not linear but built through persistence and resilience.

Panel Session Two, led by Sani Yusuf, debunked the myth that one must write code to thrive in tech. Panelists Ana-Maria Lupu, Deborah Dada, David, and Bukola Adelekan Okiji shared valuable insights into non-technical roles, empowering many to reconsider their career options in the industry.

A fireside chat with Rukayat Alabi, founder of RKY Careers, delivered practical guidance on bridging the skills vs. experience gap and leveraging soft skills to stand out. The conversation provided actionable takeaways and sparked renewed motivation among attendees.

What truly set Elevatech Summit London 2025 apart was its strong sense of community. Many attendees reported feeling a renewed sense of purpose and possibility. One participant, moved by Bukola’s journey from a non-tech background, said it reignited her belief that she, too could break into the industry. Another commented, “This is the first time I’ve felt like I truly belonged in this space.”

The event was organised by the Elevatech Network, founded by Adewale Adetona, a respected tech career mentor, author, and Product Marketing leader. Elevatech Network is driven by the belief that no one, especially new “expatriates” should have to navigate the UK tech industry alone. The summit’s success is a testament to that mission.
