The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared that it remains the strongest political force in the country and is poised to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP dismissed recent criticisms from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing them as “unprovoked” and “irrelevant distractions” orchestrated by individuals with historical ties to the APC.
The party particularly criticised Bolaji Abdullahi, Interim National Publicity Secretary of the ADC and former APC spokesperson, accusing him of using the ADC platform to attack the PDP instead of confronting what it called the “catastrophic governance” of the APC under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“It is rather unfortunate that the APC-indoctrinated Abdullahi is unhappy that the PDP is building momentum ahead of the 2027 elections,” the statement said, adding that the PDP would not descend to trading words with smaller opposition parties while it remained focused on mobilising Nigerians to unseat the APC.
Ologunagba emphasised that, despite recent defections, the PDP continues to enjoy deep-rooted grassroots support across the country, describing its support base as “organic, loyal and national in scope.”
“The PDP has the national spread, political muscle and credible personalities with the capacity to defeat President Tinubu or any APC candidate at any time,” he said.
He further noted that the PDP is open to alliances with well-meaning Nigerians and democratic forces committed to rescuing the nation from what the party described as the APC’s “failed leadership.”
Reaffirming its readiness for the 2027 elections, the PDP stated that it is consolidating on recent internal reconciliatory efforts and preparing for its 101st National Convention, scheduled to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State, from November 15 to 16, 2025.
“Our party is focused on delivering a people-oriented alternative to the APC. We remain the broad-based platform driving Nigerians’ hope for a better future,” the statement concluded.
