Love, magic and vibration: Intricacies of DJ Wallace’s ‘A Decade’ EP

Gbadebo Oluwafemi Anthony, professionally known as Undisputed DJ Wallace, is a seasoned Nigerian disc jockey and music producer whose musical journey began in 2012. An alumnus of Sheffield Hallam University with a Master’s degree in International Hospitality and Tourism Management, Wallace has performed at various events across Nigeria and the United Kingdom, bringing his energy, passion, and unique sound to every stage. His love for DJing was ignited in high school after watching a thrilling performance at a school party. That experience sparked something within him. From volunteering at small events to curating music that moves crowds, DJ Wallace has grown into an artist whose work resonates across cultures and generations.

His 2022 project, A Decade, is more than a celebration. It is a personal statement, a musical diary that captures ten years of effort, growth, and belief. The four-track EP features collaborations with Tirri, Dillz, Milly Sushi, Rhook Castle, and Raybekah. Blending Afrobeat, rap, indigenous influences, and electronic elements, the project showcases Wallace’s wide sonic range and ability to connect with audiences through both sound and story.

The first track, Wonda, produced by DJ Wallace and co-produced by Lumeviie, opens with tender melodies and heartfelt lyricism. Featuring Milly Sushi and Raybekah, the song explores the emotional terrain of romance and affection. The harmonies float like a warm breeze, wrapping around the listener in a gentle embrace. Each lyric is drenched in sincerity, evoking vulnerability and the deep longing that comes with true connection. The chemistry between the artists is clear, flowing naturally with the soft beat. It is the kind of song you play at sunset, when words fall short and emotions take over. Wonda doesn’t just talk about love; it creates a space where love is felt, remembered, and reimagined.

Vibration, the second track, flips the mood entirely. It is a fast-paced Afrobeat anthem layered with vibrant shakers, a groovy bassline, bold percussion, and a lively saxophone. DJ Wallace and Dillz join forces on this one, delivering a performance rooted in rhythm and celebration. Produced by the renowned Dawie, Vibration is a call to move, a tribute to youthful freedom, and a nod to shared cultural experiences. The track builds its energy through carefully layered instrumentation, and every sound feels intentional. Together, Wallace and Dillz preach nothing but good vibes, urging listeners to lose themselves on the dance floor and in the joy of the moment. It is the kind of music that reminds you how powerful sound can be in creating unity and joy.

Then comes Swa, a track that leans confidently into street culture and Yoruba-inspired swag. With a beat that thumps from the very first second, Swa establishes its mood quickly. DJ Wallace takes on the character of a laid-back, confident narrator who isn’t concerned with drama or emotional entanglements. He wants the vibe, the energy, the dance. Featuring Rhook Castle, the track blends rhythmic Yoruba rap with pulsing kicks, synths, and gritty textures. It is unbothered and assertive, using language and rhythm to assert pride and independence. The beat is raw yet refined, and the cultural infusion gives it a richness that makes it memorable. Swa is a track that asks for no permission. It owns its space with charisma and rhythm.

The final track, Magician, is perhaps the most imaginative on the EP. Here, DJ Wallace collaborates with Tiirii to create a track filled with sensuality, mystique, and cultural symbolism. The term Sekesekebula, borrowed from a magical chant in a 2011 dance drama, brings a theatrical touch that sets the tone. The lyrics lean into seduction, power, and the mystic aura of being a magician. Through Yoruba intonations and playfully erotic language, Wallace and Tiirii shape a world where desire and rhythm collide. The beat, produced by Shabzy and co-produced by Seyyicodes, draws influence from Amapiano, combining log drums, synth waves, and steady kicks into a spellbinding rhythm. Magician is structured with a familiar hook-verse-chorus pattern, yet nothing about it feels predictable. It is colourful, bold, and intoxicating in its delivery.

Beyond the sound and lyrics, A Decade also holds silence, the kind of silence filled with memory, struggle, and perseverance. There is the quiet of late nights spent editing, the stillness after a performance where the applause felt distant, and the heaviness that comes when passion begins to feel like pressure. DJ Wallace has carried equipment, dreams, and doubts across stages and empty rooms. He has played for indifferent crowds and learned to stay rooted in the belief that someone, somewhere, is truly listening. The music has always answered him back, whispering reasons to continue even when the road felt uncertain.

Each track on this EP is more than just a song. It is a page from a journal, a chapter in a journey, and a statement of purpose. DJ Wallace does not merely aim to entertain. He seeks to connect, to heal, and to express emotions that often live beneath the surface. His music holds memory, pain, hope, and joy, all wrapped in sound. Though he may not be a professional singer, Wallace’s strength lies in his ability to orchestrate. He curates sounds, brings voices together, and tells stories that speak across borders.

On A Decade, DJ Wallace proves that sound alone can carry emotion, identity, and truth. He is the producer, the DJ, the visionary, and the vessel. The EP is not just a celebration of where he has been but also an invitation to imagine where he can go.

When the music fades, what remains is the feeling. That is the legacy of this project. Not just the rhythm, but the heartbeat behind it.
