Uniport dismisses rumours of snake incident on campus

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has issued a statement categorically denying rumours circulating, especially on social media, that a big snake was killed in one of its classrooms. The rumours also described the snake as a deity.

The university described the claims as “entirely false, baseless, and a figment of the imagination of mischief-makers.”

In a press release signed by Dr. Sammy Kpenu, Head of Information, Publications, and Public Relations, the university assured the public that no such incident had occurred on its campus.

“No snake was seen, no snake was killed, and no incident of such nature has occurred anywhere on the University campus,” the statement read.

He added, “The university believes that the false rumours are the handiwork of individuals seeking cheap popularity and attention on social media at the expense of the institution’s peace and reputation.

“Management has urged members of the public, staff, students, and stakeholders to disregard the fake news and desist from sharing misleading information.”

He noted that the university has taken measures to monitor and report those spreading falsehoods to the relevant authorities, emphasising that UNIPORT remains committed to maintaining a safe, secure, and conducive environment for learning, research, and all legitimate activities.
