To enhance the well-being and support the resettlement of indigent members to a new location, Anchor Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO) International Company Ltd and the Rotary Club of Victoria Island East have joined forces to provide health insurance cover for 100 displaced residents from the Maroko community for one year.
This was revealed yesterday during a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony in Lagos. General Manager of Anchor HMO, Idorenyin Okon, stated that the collaboration signifies a significant step towards improving access to quality healthcare services nationwide through a shared commitment and strategic partnership.
She encouraged other civil society organisations to follow suit as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to expand the reach of better healthcare services, especially in grassroots areas.
Assistant General Manager of Anchor HMO, Dr Sandra Nnamani, described the partnership as a demonstration of the company’s dedication to supporting underserved communities. She emphasised that the partnership represents a sustainable approach to community healthcare, providing long-term relief beyond one-time donations.
Beneficiaries will have consistent access to medical services that meet international standards. President of the Rotary Club, MokesiOluwa Seun-Adedamola, mentioned that the initiative aligns with their focus on disease prevention and community development.
The partnership, according to the Rotary President, aims to offer a sustainable alternative to one-time interventions like food or clothing donations, saying: “Displaced persons now residing in the Eleko area of Lagos will benefit from one year of health insurance coverage, highlighting the importance of prioritising healthcare access for vulnerable populations.
District Governor of Rotary District 9112, Lanre Adedoyin, emphasised that the initiative was developed to ensure that displaced and indigent residents could seek medical attention without financial barriers.
He described the development as a significant step for the club and a strategic contribution to the community, urging all parties to uphold the value outlined in the MoU with integrity and accountability.
Adedoyin also reaffirmed their commitment to community-based projects aligned with their seven areas of focus, including health and disease prevention, maternal and child health, and economic development.
According to him, upon implementation, beneficiaries will have access to a network of hospitals and healthcare providers nationwide for treatment of illnesses, diagnostics, maternity and emergency care, optical and dental services and surgeries.
