In a world where market relevance and brand resonance have become critical differentiators, Onome Umukoro is one of the few professionals on the African continent exemplifying marketing innovation and execution. With over a decade of multifaceted experience spanning financial services, real estate, hospitality, and the creative economy, Umukoro has distinguished herself as a strategist, communicator, and builder of business value across Africa and beyond.
Currently the Group Deputy Manager, Marketing and Corporate Communications at Mixta Africa, a pan-African real estate investment and development subsidiary of the ARM Group, Umukoro oversees marketing initiatives across five countries – Nigeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Côte d’Ivoire, and Senegal. Her purview includes regional brand development, diaspora engagement, digital strategy, event marketing, and public relations – delivered with precision and a clear-eyed understanding of the African business landscape.
Her work at Mixta Africa has played a pivotal role in positioning high-value projects such as Lakowe Lakes Golf and Country Estate within both the African and diaspora markets. Through an integrated campaign approach, she increased brand awareness by 5% in just one month, demonstrating an ability to not only build visibility but drive measurable impact. She also helped broker strategic partnerships with commercial banks to enable diaspora Nigerians to access mortgages, broadening access to home ownership and reinforcing the brand’s trust credentials.
Prior to her role at Mixta, Umukoro spent a decade at Sterling Bank, rising through the ranks from operations and social media management to lead the Creative Business Team and later the marketing arm. There, she orchestrated the bank’s venture into the fashion and leatherwork industries – enrolling over 300 MSMEs in three months – and was instrumental in introducing platforms such as Specta, Switch, and Every Nanny, helping the bank reach over 500,000 digital users in under a year.
In addition to her achievements in marketing and communications, she also contributed significantly to procurement, CSR, and strategic brand positioning, saving the bank over ₦100 million through smart vendor relationships and spearheading initiatives like Sterling Cares and Recyclart.
Umukoro holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Lagos and a robust portfolio of certifications, including Applied Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Agile Methodology, Strategic Procurement Management, and Digital Marketing from Google Nigeria. She is a member of both APCON and the Chartered Institute of Marketing UK.
Onome Umukoro’s ascent is not merely a story of personal success but a testament to the power of informed strategy, adaptability, and authentic brand storytelling in modern Africa. As brands across the continent seek relevance in global markets, professionals like Umukoro represent the future – bridging markets, cultures, and consumer expectations with insight and purpose.
