Namadi appoints Kakudi as Jigawa poly rector, Maji named college provost

Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has approved the appointment of new leadership for two key tertiary institutions in the state, reflecting his administration’s commitment to strengthening the education sector through merit-based appointments.

Dr. Habeeba Adamu Kakudi has been appointed as the new Rector of the Jigawa State Polytechnic for Communication and Information Technology, Kazaure. Prior to her appointment, she served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Bayero University, Kano.

Kakudi began her academic career in 2001 at the Jigawa State College of Education, Gumel, before joining Bayero University Kano in 2011 as a Lecturer II. She has an extensive academic portfolio, including numerous publications and participation in workshops and training programs both in Nigeria and abroad.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree (B.Tech) in Mathematics/Computer Science from the Federal University of Technology, Minna (1998), a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Bayero University, Kano (2011), and a Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2020).

The appointment was confirmed in a statement signed by the Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State, Malam Bala Ibrahim, who noted that the decision aligns with Governor Namadi’s vision of placing competent professionals in strategic leadership roles across educational institutions.

“These appointments are based on merit, competence, and personal integrity, with the expectation that each appointee will significantly contribute to the state’s development,” the statement read.

In a related development, the Governor also approved the appointment of Dr. Maji Ibrahim Abubakar as the new Provost of the Jigawa State College of Remedial and Advanced Studies (JICORAS), Babura.

Before his appointment, Dr. Maji served as a Chief Lecturer at Bilyaminu Usman Polytechnic, Hadejia. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Mewar University, Rajasthan, India, followed by a Master of Science in Advanced Manufacturing Technology, and a Ph.D. in Industrial Manufacturing—both from the University of Portsmouth, UK.

He is a registered member of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), and has several journal publications to his name.

The state government urged the new appointees to uphold excellence, embrace innovation, and work diligently toward achieving the goals of the administration in transforming the education sector.
