The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has disclosed that despite the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the current All Progressives Congress (APC) federal government, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has consistently appreciated the Christians in his appointments.
Kwara State Secretary CAN, Senior Apostle Shina Ibiyemi, at the weekend in Ilorin, said that indeed, the government had been fair to Christendom.
The legal practitioner told reporters at the annual convention/prayer of the Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC), an affiliate of CAN, that the feat is due to the approach of the current CAN President Daniel Okoh of connecting directly to the presidency whenever issues of interest break out.
“The current CAN President is a bit reserved. Whenever there is an issue, he goes straight to the President at Aso Rock, that is why you don’t hear much of him, but you will discover that from the Federal Government’s appointments, notwithstanding we have a Muslim-Muslim ticket, the government has not relegated the Christians to the background.
“The Government has been cooperating with CAN; it has been fair to the Christians in the country because if we sneeze the Federal Government will catch cold,” he said.
However, Ibiyemi regretted the seeming lack of unity amongst Christians in the state, but added that CAN is striving to restore peace and unity to Christendom in the state.
He said: “The unity of the Christians as a whole is an area where all our leaders are working in. Disunity is still in existence.”
Earlier, the state Chairman of OAIC, Evangelist Thomas Adeboye, hinted that hitherto, churches of African descent had been misunderstood and marginalised.
“We must walk in spiritual authority and holiness, refusing to compromise with the patterns of the world.
“We must educate and empower our next generation — raising sons and daughters who will serve in ministry, government, business, education and media with integrity and divine influence,” he urged.
