Ogun govt denies sealing ex-gov’s property
The row between the Ogun State Government and former Governor, Gbenga Daniel, over alleged contravention of building regulations by the latter took a new dimension with Daniel saying that the Dapo Abiodun administration had no moral right to paste notices on people’s properties if it had not pasted same on his private residence in Iperu, the governor’s hometown.
Daniel said Abiodun’s private residence in Iperu faced a major federal road, which is Iperu-Ode Remo road, without any setback, wondering why the same notices had not been pasted on it if the Abiodun government had no “ulterior motive” in targeting him and his properties.
The former governor recalled that the Aseludero Court Hall, Sagamu, was the place where Abiodun’s hand was raised by him in the build-up to the 2019 governorship election and endorsed before a mammoth crowd of political supporters and associates, wondering why the property had just contravened building regulations six years after Abiodun came to power.
He spoke against the backdrop of the development at Aseludero Hall within his private residence, Sagamu, through Mr Steve Oliyide of the Otunba Gbenga Daniel Media Office, while briefing newsmen.
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Government, yesterday, dismissed reports that it sealed off the Asoludero Court and Conference Hotels Limited as well as its annex belonging to the Former Governor of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, in Sagamu.
It equally appealed to the sitting Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District to obey the existing building law and present the necessary documents of the two buildings to the relevant authority in the state for verification.
Governor Dapo Abiodun and Daniel, at the weekend, were locked in war of words over the quit and demolition notices issued on the latter’s property located at Sagamu Government Reservation Area(GRA)by the state government.
While Daniel accused Abiodun of political prosecution and abuse of power over the issuance of the quit and demolition notices on Thursday, August 8, 2025, Abiodun also replied that the former governor was not above the law.
However, reacting to the development, the state government, through the Commissioner for Urban Development and Physical Planning, Tunji Odunlami, denied sealing Daniel’s property as there was no seal-off paste or cross-red mark to indicate the building has been cordoned off.
