FG intensifies fight against certificate racketeering

The Federal Government has intensified its fight against certificate racketeering, following the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo’s meeting with the Joint House Committee On Alleged Cases Of Certificate Racketeering, chaired by Honourable Abubakar Hassan Fulata.

“Our deliberations centred on the imperative of ensuring the integrity of Nigerian citizenship documentation, particularly in relation to certificate racketeering,” Tunji-Ojo said in a statement on his official X account.

“As government officials, we are poised to implement robust verification systems to guarantee that only legitimate citizens with verified credentials benefit from national opportunities.”

Tunji-Ojo said their discussion also highlighted the crucial role of data integration in combating certificate racketeering, which often exploits existing gaps.

He said the Ministry of Interior is committed to aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by establishing a unified system for tracking academic and citizenship records.

“In addition, we remain dedicated to addressing systemic vulnerabilities in Nigeria’s citizenship and educational frameworks by prioritizing citizenship integrity and data integration, with the ultimate goal of restoring confidence in the nation’s institutions,” the minister said.
