INEC, police vow transparent, violence-free Taraba bye-election

The Taraba State Commissioner of Police, Betty Enekpen Isokpan Otimenyin, has pledged the Command’s readiness to deploy seasoned officers and adequate resources for the Karim-Lamido 1 State House of Assembly bye-election scheduled for August 16, 2025.

She gave the assurance yesterday during a meeting with the state’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Alhaji Umar Mukhtar Gajiram, at the Police Command Headquarters in Jalingo.

Isokpan stressed that the difficult terrain of Karim-Lamido demands strict adherence to security protocols and urged INEC to work in close coordination with all security formations ahead of the poll.

The meeting was said to have been convened to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and review security strategies aimed at ensuring a smooth, peaceful, and credible electoral process.

Commending the police for their critical role in safeguarding elections, the INEC Chairman described the engagement as an opportunity to foster proactive synergy.

He noted that every election—no matter the scale—requires a strong security presence to uphold peace and public order.

Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to delivering a transparent, credible, and violence-free election.

The Police Command also warned political actors and their supporters to respect electoral laws, vowing firm action against anyone attempting to undermine the process.
