Edo State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Samson Osagie, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to strengthening the justice delivery system to protect citizens’ rights and uphold the rule of law.
Speaking with journalists in Benin, Osagie said the Ministry of Justice, recognising that correctional services are now on the concurrent legislative list, has taken steps to enhance the speedy dispensation of justice through improved logistical support.
He noted that the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) has implemented measures to ensure the prompt return of cases referred for legal opinions. This, he said, has led to quicker determinations on whether to proceed with prosecution or issue a “no prima facie case” opinion.
According to him, the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration remains resolute in pursuing justice in criminal matters, ranging from capital offences to other serious crimes.
“Our prosecutors continue to work tirelessly to ensure offenders are brought to justice swiftly and fairly. This administration’s commitment to fighting crime is central to ensuring the security and welfare of Edo citizens, as enshrined in Section 14 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended),” Osagie stated.
The commissioner lauded the ministry’s achievements since the governor assumed office, describing them as a testament to the dedication, professionalism, and collaborative spirit of staff across all departments.
He assured that the state government is determined to sustain and surpass these milestones, ensuring that the Ministry of Justice remains a beacon of justice, fairness, and good governance in Edo State.
