Nigerian chef, Agbi Ailoje Ayokunle, popularly known as Loje The Singing Chef, has said his culinary skills were a natural gift.
Speaking on what sets him apart, he explained, “Every meal I make is prepared with love. My goal is not just to feed people but to revitalize their taste buds and give them an unforgettable experience.”
Hailing from Edo State but raised in Lagos, Ayokunle is the last child of Dr. and Mrs. Agbi. He grew up in a close-knit family, where his early love for food began to flourish. Today, he runs a catering business that has served thousands of clients, from everyday households to royalty.
Loje’s educational journey reflects a blend of academics and professional training. He attended Our Lady of Apostles Private School, Yaba, before proceeding to Yaba College of Technology Secondary School. He later studied Psychology at the University of Ibadan, where he earned both a B.Sc. and an M.Sc., and also obtained a food safety certificate from the London Food Safety Professional Training Center.
He said his love for cooking began as early as age eight, when he experimented with baking. By 2008, while in secondary school, he was already creating pastries for friends and family. He recalled how his mother supported his journey by buying him his first baking mixer a tool he still treasures 17 years later.
Over the years, Loje has catered for high-profile events, including serving over 2,500 guests at once and cooking for kings in private dinners. His services have also taken him beyond Nigeria’s borders.
However, his entrepreneurial journey has not been without challenges. He has had to grapple with inflation, staff management, and theft. Yet, his resilience and commitment to excellence have kept his brand thriving.
According to him, his mother remains his earliest mentor, instilling in him the principles of financial discipline, customer service, and business ethics. In the culinary space, he draws inspiration from MatseCooks.
On his business philosophy, he stated that integrity, customer satisfaction, excellence, and teamwork remain his guiding values. He also emphasized the importance of adaptability, saying, “Rather than dwelling on the problem, proffer a solution.”
Beyond business, Loje said he is committed to giving back, regularly donating food, toiletries, and financial aid to the less privileged.
