THE National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has expressed sadness over the demise of former Military Administrator of Plateau State, Senator Mohammed Mana, and acknowledged his role as one of the promoters of Nigeria’s transition to democracy.
Nigeria ended years of military authority and transited to constitutional democracy on May 29, 1999.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Paul Mumeh, Senator Mark described the late one-time Deputy Minority Whip of the Senate as a fine officer and gentleman who served Nigeria with much dignity and honour.
The former president of the Senate recalled that while they both served in the military, the late Mana exhibited patriotism and uncommon commitment towards the protection of the territorial integrity of Nigeria.
Mark said: “In the military, Mana was a soldier who protected the territorial integrity of Nigeria and was in the forefront of promoting the transition to democratic authorities.
“Mana and I served in the Nigerian Army with distinction. We left without blemish. By sheer coincidence, both of us later met in the 6th Senate (between 2007 and 2011).
“Senator Mana was a patriotic Nigerian, a team player, and a jovial personality who held firmly to the values of justice, equity, and fairness without compromising his integrity.”
Sympathizing with late Mana’s immediate family, the government, and the people of Adamawa State, Senator Mark urged them to take solace in the fact that he lived an exemplary life worthy of emulation.
He said: “Mana was patriotic and a jolly good fellow. He believed in justice, equity, and fairness to all.
“He prayed that God in His infinite mercy grant the deceased eternal rest.”
