Says EFCC is a willing tool of intimidation by APC
As the 2027 general elections draw nearer, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has boasted that it has covered unimaginable millage and acceptance across Nigeria that surpasses all expectations.
The party further stated that the disposition of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to intimidate and silence their key members and discourage Nigerians from openly joining the ADC and the coalition movement in general, poses a threat to democratic rule and equally presents the anti-corruption agency as a willing tool in the hands of the ruling party.
The EFCC had arrested a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, immediate past Governor of Sokoto State and member of the current Senate, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who is an active member of the coalition, over alleged financial impropriety.
The ADC had equally alleged plots by the EFCC to launch an investigation into the two tenures of it’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark, when he held away as President of the 6th and 7th Senate.
The commission was equally accused of plans to investigate and arrest former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and ex-Governor of Imo State, Honourable Emeka Ihedioha.
The National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, told The Guardian that the party has been accepted by Nigerians as the only viable alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He stated that the party is happy with the progress that has been made across the country and the reception it has enjoyed ahead of the general elections.
Responding to insinuations that the party’s momentum has drastically dropped down over fear of arrest of it’s key members by the EFCC at any time, the National Publicity Secretary said: “Like we noted in our press statement regarding the matter, EFCC appears willing to lend itself to use as a tool of intimidation by the ruling party against coalition leaders in the name of fighting corruption.
“If you get that press statement you will see our position clearly.”
He further stated that: “So far, we are happy with the progress that has been made across the country.
“The party has been received with great enthusiasm as the only viable alternative to the ruling party. The work continues, there is still a lot of grounds to cover.
“But we are pleased with progress especially at the grassroots.”
The ADC is currently unveiling across the 774 local governments of Nigeria and intensifying it’s membership drive.
