Benue State House of Assembly has suspended the immediate former Speaker, Aondona Dajoh.
The motion for his suspension, which was moved by Terna Shimwua (Kyan constituency) during plenary yesterday, alleged that the former Speaker attempted to impeach Governor Hyacinth Alia, and recommended a six-month suspension. The motion was seconded by James Umoru (Apa).
The new Speaker, Alfred Emberga, did not put the motion to a vote before assent l, but reduced the suspension from six to three months, and thereafter upturned all the decisions of the former Speaker in the last sitting of the Assembly before his resignation.
Recall that the Dahoh-led House had demanded the approval of the resolution to suspend the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) chairman, Grace Adagba, chairman of Otukpo local council, Maxwell Ogiri, and Executive Secretary of the Lottery Board, Michael Uper, as a condition for screening of commissioner nominees transmitted to the legislature by the governor.
The governor capitulated and suspended the three officials.
Also, at the last sitting prior to the resignation, the House rejected two of the commissioner nominees screened on that day.
The new Speaker lifted the suspension of all three officials, and also confirmed the two hitherto rejected commissioner nominees, Dr Timothy Ornguga and James Dwem.
