Operatives of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Osun State Police Command have stormed a tertiary institution of learning in Osun State and arrested two undergraduates for allegedly participating in cultism.

However, a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abiodun Ojelabi, did not disclose the name of the institution.

According to the statement, the Osun Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, warned students against cultism, while also revealing that the operational techniques the command has emplaced against cult activities and other vices in the state are yielding positive results.

On how the students were arrested, the statement disclosed that on August 21, 2025, at about 6:30 pm, during the student union week in one of the higher institutions in the state, the Anti-Cultism Unit, acting upon intelligence-led and proactive policing, arrested “the two suspected notorious cultists.”

Ojelabi gave the names of the male suspects as Taiwo Oluwatobi, aged 29 years, a.k.a ‘ORIFE’, and Oluwabusuyi Ajayi, 29, a.k.a ‘AGA’.

“They confessed to be members of the Aiye confraternity and the Buccaneer confraternity (Alora), respectively,” the statement added.

In the same vein, the police spokesperson explained that on August 19, 2025, some hoodlums suspected to be members of Aiye confraternity terrorising the residents of Okuku town and environs were arrested.

“Police detectives from the Anti-cultism Unit of the command moved swiftly to the town where four suspects were apprehended, namely: Ayodeji Ismail, m’ age 20years, Owolabi Omobolaji, m’ age 20years, David Oluwatomisin, m’ age 26years and Kolawole Segun, m’ age 22years. Suspects confessed to being members of the Aiye confraternity,” he stated.

Ojelabi noted that in another development, “upon information received that some armed hoodlums suspected to be members of Eiye confraternity led by one Gafari ‘m’, surname yet unknown, were terrorising the residents of Gbeja area, Oke-Baale Osogbo, police detectives from Anti-cultism Unit of the command swung into action and moved to the scene. On sighting the security operatives, the suspects fled the scene. The following exhibits were recovered from their hideout: one cut-to-size single-barrel gun, one cut-to-size double-barrel gun, five sharp cutlasses, one axe and three live cartridges. Efforts are in top gear to arrest the fleeing hoodlums.”

He revealed that those suspects earlier arrested will be charged in court upon completion of investigation.
