Singer and guitarist, Oyinoluwa Omotayo, is far from the typical gospel singer. For her, music transcends mere notes and rhythms; it is a profound calling and a ministry rooted in faith, family, and divine inspiration.
From a young age, she aspired to be a gospel artiste, dedicating notebooks to her lyrics and melodies—though she did lose her very first collection. Although her passion waned for a time, it reignited in full force after she completely surrendered her life to Christ.
“I started writing songs again, and this time I realised they were not solely my creations—they were gifts from God,” she reflects.
Born into a music family, her father was once a guitarist for church and social gatherings, while her mother possessed a deep love for music. Her equally talented sisters became early influences in her life, the reason music flows through her veins.
Determined to sharpen her skills, Oyinoluwa learned to play the guitar under Pastor Ben Wealth, who mentored her musically and spiritually. “He taught me more than music. He helped me grow in faith,” she said.
That faith sustains her amid self-doubt and comparison. “Sometimes I wonder how I will thrive with so many amazing artistes out there, but the Holy Spirit reminds me that what He gave me is unique,” she explains.
Her conviction is clear: approval must come from God, not men. Her breakout single, Agape Love, reflects this conviction. Inspired by Isaiah 49:15, the song celebrates God’s unconditional love, stronger than even a mother’s affection. Other songs, like My Yearnings, also came as divine inspiration during quiet moments of reflection.
Oyinoluwa finds strength in influences such as Tope Alabi, Sunmisola Agbebi, Dunsin Oyekan, Nathaniel Bassey, as well as international artistes like Tasha Cobbs and Travis Greene. She is currently crafting new tracks such as Love Story, Mercy, Kira, and Olorun Ape Rirẹ, each carrying a message of hope and faith.
Looking toward the future, Oyinoluwa imagines herself gracing global stages—not in pursuit of fame, but in her mission to spread light and bridge humanity back to God through her music.
To aspiring female musicians, she advises maintaining focus, steering clear of comparisons, and allowing God to navigate your path. “For me, music is ministry. Each song presents a chance to draw hearts closer to Him,” she said.
