Ayotee eyes ‘Detty’ December with Back It Up

With ‘Detty’ December around the corner, Afropop singer and WalzNation’s newest star Toluhi Ayomide Opeyemi, better known as Ayotee, is set to drop a new banger just in time for the period.

Titled, Back It Up and scheduled for release in October, the highly anticipated track is already being hyped as the December anthem to end all anthems. “By December, everyone will be backing it up,” she said unapologetically.

Born August 6 in Ipaja, a bustling neighbourhood in Lagos, Ayotee from a young age, has always seen music as a vessel to express herself. Her love for music was driven by an early interest in the therapeutic essence of R&B and the lounging ease of soul that could be gleaned from Disney scores while the propulsive energy of Afropop provided her immediate icons to look out for like Tiwa Savage, Teni, Tems, Niniola, and Ayra Starr.

“Ipaja taught me hustle. The world will see it,” the fast rising singer said about the influence her neigbhourhood has on her career.

Ayotee’s first sojourn in music came as a songwriter as she toyed with the stylistics of putting verses together and watching the verses take shape as full-fledged songs. Over time, she began to become interested in all the parts of becoming an artist, swapping the contemplative air of her earlier years for a resolution to make it as a singer.

Determined to compete with her idols, she formally made her debut in 2021 with Sweet Loving, a sultry Afro-pop track that blended her enchanting vocals with a smooth, soulful instrumental, perfectly capturing her desire for a romantic connection.

She followed with Gamble in 2022, a more intricate progression from the lovey-dovey atmosphere of Sweet Loving, where she unfurls her vocals over an underground instrumental that wholeheartedly celebrates love and every sacrifice she’d make for that special someone.

Basking on the successes of the Sweet Loving and Gamble, Ayotee in 2023 came through with another banger titled Private Party. Prior to this, she was a model.
