Thirteen-year-old Aondoakaa Ushahem Isaac from Taraba State has emerged as the winner of the Group C Male Singles Ayo game at the ongoing 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.
Isaac’s impressive performance saw him outplay competitors from Kwara and Anambra states, securing his spot at the top of the group.
Despite losing to Ogun State’s representative, Isaac managed to top his group by defeating both Kwara and Anambra, thereby solidifying his place in the quarterfinals.
The young athlete attributed his success to divine intervention and commended his coach, Victoria Sende, for her dedication and relentless training efforts.
Isaac also called on the relevant authorities to give Ayo game more attention in his home state of Taraba, a sentiment shared by his coach.
Coach Victoria Sende, while celebrating the achievement, expressed concern over the limited participation of Taraba in the Ayo game.
She noted that the state is currently competing in just one of the five Ayo game categories and urged the state government to invest more in promoting the sport within the region.
“Taraba has qualified for the quarterfinals, but we need more support to develop the sport further,” Sende said. “We hope the state government will take steps to ensure that Ayo game receives the attention it deserves.”
Isaac’s victory, as noticed by The Guardian, marks a significant milestone for Taraba in the 9th National Youth Games, highlighting the potential of young athletes from the state in competitive sports.
