The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kogi State has discovered and destroyed 300kg of assorted illicit drugs in the state.

According to the state commander of NDLEA, Umar Yahuza, the feat was achieved in just one month of operations.

“Within the month, we seized assorted illicit drugs like Cannabis sativa and psychotropic substances,” Yahuza said.

Commander Yahuza said the command also intercepted several shipments of hard drugs moving through the state to other parts of the country, saying, “I will resist criminals’ attempts to use Kogi as a transit camp for their illegal businesses ”

He explained that the command, acting on credible intelligence, conducted raid operations in Elugu-Egugu forest of Olamaboro Local Government Area, where the men of the command arrested two suspects and destroyed over seven hectares of Cannabis farms.

“These successes were achieved with the intelligence operations in line with the current leadership of the Agency led by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Retired Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa,” he said.

Commander Yahuza stated that the command also embarked on a series of sensitisation activities to educate the general public at places of worship, motor parks, schools, and in liaison with NGOs operating in the State on the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
