The Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIoTA), in collaboration with the University of Lagos (UNILAG), solidified a pivotal partnership with a joint seminar, workshop, and induction of students from the Centre for Multimodal Transport Studies.

Held at the Arthur Mbanéfo Digital Research Centre at UNILAG, the event, tagged “Sustainable Integrated Multi-Modal Transportation for National Development.”
was attended by professionals from all walks of life.

National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Chizoba Anyika revealed that the formal induction of students into CIoTA marked a significant milestone in their academic and professional journey, as they joined a community dedicated to transforming Nigeria’s transport landscape.

In his opening remarks, the President of CIoTA, Prince Segun Obayendo, represented by the National Publicity Secretary, hailed the collaboration as a watershed moment, underscoring a shared belief that the future of transportation must be built on knowledge, innovation, and early professional preparation.

The keynote address, delivered by Professor Iyiola Oni, highlighted the importance of academic excellence, ethical leadership, and practical professionalism in shaping the future of transport.

The event’s highlight came with a lecture from Professor Bamidele Abiona Badejo, who characterised sustainable integrated multi-modal transportation as a “game changer” for the sector. He emphasised how integrating roads, rail, and waterways can revolutionise mobility and cited the critical importance of data-informed approaches in supporting operational efficiency.

”The time has come for enhanced training and specialised expertise for transport professionals. Also, we must encourage Nigerians to embrace and use the infrastructure provided by the government,” Prof. Badejo remarked.

By merging ceremony with thoughtful discourse, the event underscored the synergy between academic study and sector-wide application. It served as a clear declaration of intent, a commitment to foster talent, reinforce professionalism, and promote integrated solutions in Nigeria’s transport infrastructure.

As the event concluded, CIoTA reaffirmed its promise to mentor and support these newly inducted professionals through ongoing collaboration, targeted training, and strategic opportunities for growth.
