Police parade 17 suspected criminals in Ibadan

The Oyo State Police Command has paraded 17 suspected criminals allegedly involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, vehicular hijacking, rape, and other crimes.

Parading the suspects at the Command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Adewale Osifeso, said the arrests were part of efforts to curb crime, especially as the “ember months” approach.
“In response to public concerns about motorcycle-related crimes, kidnappings, and vehicular hijackings, we are today presenting 17 male suspects arrested for various offenses, including kidnapping, armed robbery, criminal hijacking, and the distribution of counterfeit currency,” Osifeso said.

He narrated a major case involving an armed robbery incident on June 15, 2025, at Fola Kongi Street, Basorun Area, Ibadan.
“At about 1500hrs, one Faleru Segun and his wife, Teminioluwa Adewunmi, were intercepted at the entrance of their house by three armed men, who forced them inside at gunpoint,” Osifeso stated.
“They carted away 52 grams of gold necklace valued at ₦7.54 million, two iPhones (13 and 16 Pro Max), and other valuables. The suspects also unlawfully transferred ₦4.5 million from the victims’ Moniepoint account into a microfinance bank account belonging to a female member of the gang before fleeing on a motorcycle.”

According to him, the incident was reported at Ikolaba Police Division before being transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan, where detectives launched a discreet investigation.
“On September 3, 2025, at about 1700hrs, operatives arrested the gang leader, Omole Ridwan, and the female accomplice, Adegbile Adewunmi, whose account was used for the fraudulent transfer. One AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine, a double-barrel pistol, a fabricated metal object shaped like a gun, an axe, and two cutlasses used in the robbery were recovered,” he said.

The PPRO added that the suspects made confessional statements and provided useful information that will aid the arrest of other fleeing members of the gang.

He said the exhibits recovered from the suspects include an AK-47 rifle with breech number 1057, an AK-47 empty magazine, a double-barrel pistol, a fabricated metal gun, an axe, and two cutlasses.
“Investigation is ongoing, and further developments will be communicated,” Osifeso assured.
