Gateway Int’l Airport gets NCAA’s aerodrome operational permit

Ogun to boost poultry production
Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), yesterday, issued Gateway International Airport, Ilisan-Iperu, Ogun State, its Aerodrome Operational Permit (AOP).

The approval makes the facility the first airport in the country to attain this certification under the NCAA’s enhanced regulatory framework.

Similarly, the Instrument Landing System/Distance Measuring Equipment (ILS/DME), installed on Runway 23 of the Gateway International Airport, has been declared “totally satisfactory in all respects” and cleared for unrestricted use after a successful flight inspection conducted by the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) on September 4, 2025.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Tayo Mabeweje, described the milestone as a validation of his administration’s vision to make Ogun State a hub for commerce, investment, and global connectivity.

“This achievement is not just for Ogun State but for Nigeria as a whole. The Gateway International Airport is a symbol of progress and a new benchmark for aviation infrastructure,” the statement said.

The certifications position the Gateway International Airport as a game-changer in Nigeria’s aviation sector, promising safer and more reliable operations, direct international market access for farmers, job opportunities for youths, and reduced congestion at Lagos airports.

With these approvals, the state has firmly established itself as a leader in aviation development, setting new standards for infrastructure, safety, and global competitiveness.

MEANWHILE, the Ogun State Government has expressed commitment to bridging the gap in poultry production as soon as the ongoing World Bank-assisted programme of a 100,000-capacity broiler facility at Eweje Farm Settlement in Odeda is completed.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Bolu Owotomo, stated this while leading a delegation from the World Bank to inspect the poultry project.

The project, which is being executed under the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), a World Bank-assisted programme, includes five residential apartments of four bedrooms each and three industrial boreholes.

Owotomo expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work done, describing it as a major step towards food security, stressing that the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration is determined to reposition the poultry sub-sector for greater productivity.
