Senate Deputy Whip distributes educational materials to schools in Ebonyi

The Senate Deputy Chief Whip and Senator representing Ebonyi North, Onyekachi Nwebonyi, on Saturday distributed educational materials worth millions of naira to schools in Ebonyi North senatorial zone, saying that the gesture was toward promoting quality education and learning in the zone.

Performing the distribution at Ohaukwu Local Government Headquarters, Sen. Nwebonyi thanked Governor Francis Nwifuru for providing an enabling environment for the growth of education in the state, noting that his effort is to complement the efforts of the state government.

The items, Guardian gathered, include school desks, writing materials, and textbooks, which will be supplied to schools across Ebonyi North senatorial district.

He noted that the procured 2,000 units of 3-in-1 desks will provide seating for about 6,000 pupils in both primary and secondary schools, adding that the exercise books, English and Mathematics textbooks, and other writing materials were distributed to students.
“The development of every society is dependent on the quality of education given to our children, because today’s children are tomorrow’s leaders. This is why I have procured these desks and materials to support learning in our schools,” he said.

The lawmaker, who highlighted some of his achievements since assuming office, listed the construction of over 16 kilometres of concrete roads across the four local government areas in the zone, distribution of vehicles, motorcycles, agricultural processing machines, and scholarships to more than 300 students.

He further disclosed plans to commence work on the 12-kilometre Ogudu–Odumoke road in Ohaukwu Local Government, noting that the first two kilometres had already been awarded to contractors.
“We are determined to set a record that will be difficult, if not impossible, to beat. As we move into the 2025 budget year, more of such interventions will come,” he assured.

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ebonyi State, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha, commended the senator for his performance, urging the people to continue supporting the ruling party.

Nwebonyi expressed appreciation to his constituents for the mandate given to him, pledging not to take their trust for granted.
“I will continue to do extraordinary things to the glory of God and for the betterment of my people, the people of Ebonyi North,” he said before inviting Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru to join in the symbolic tape-cutting.
