Women, youths urged to participate in voter registration

A prominent northern politician and women leader, Hajiya Nafisa Omar, has called on women and youth to take part actively in the ongoing voter registration exercise organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

She made the call during a one-day voter registration mobilisation programme held at the Conference Hall of the Federal Secretariat, Bauchi, over the weekend. The programme was organised by the PDP National Youth Vanguard.

Nafisa, who is also the National President of the Kaura United Support Group, emphasised that women and youth remain critical players in Nigeria’s electoral process, stressing that their participation is vital for the PDP’s victory in the forthcoming elections.

According to her, the fate of the PDP largely depends on women and youth, who make up the largest voting demographic.

She urged all party members who have recently reached voting age to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to boost the party’s numerical strength ahead of the polls.

“Voter registration is a fundamental step in ensuring that citizens’ voices are heard in the democratic process. It promotes inclusivity and strengthens civic participation.

“As PDP youths and women, we have a responsibility to make our party stronger. Supporting the party is not enough; we must have voter cards to make an impact during elections. The goal of every political party is to win elections, and only registered voters can make that happen,” she said.

In his remarks, the Bauchi State PDP chairman, Alhaji Samaila Burga, represented by his deputy, Alhaji Danlami Garba Tashan Durumi, commended the initiative, describing it as timely and crucial.

He noted that mobilising thousands of unregistered youths and citizens was “the only lawful path” for the PDP to secure victory in future elections.

Similarly, the Bauchi State Commissioner for Information, Usman Usman Shehu, represented by Manu Ali Kura, pledged the government’s support to extend the mobilisation campaign across the state.

“You have inspired us to strengthen this drive and ensure that unregistered youths and citizens obtain their voter cards, which remain the only tool for electing leaders of their choice and enjoying the dividends of democracy,” he said.
