Police rescue abducted teenager, arrest 27 suspects, seize weapons, drugs

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have rescued a kidnapped teenage girl and arrested her abductor in Agbor, following an intelligence-led operation.

The command’s spokesperson, Bright Edafe, said the rescue took place after credible intelligence revealed the suspect’s involvement in the abduction of the girl, who hails from northern Nigeria.

He explained that the Divisional Police Officer of Agbor, CSP Obekpa Michael, led a team of operatives on a rescue mission to Oza Nogogo community, where they raided the residence of 30-year-old Bila Halili, a native of Kosso community, Sokoto State.

“Halili was found in the company of a young girl later identified as Rebecca Mathew, a native of Bodinga community in Washegu Local Council of Niger State. Preliminary findings revealed that Rebecca had been kidnapped on September 11, 2025, and had been held against her will,” Edafe said.

According to him, the suspect lured the victim from her home, destroyed her SIM card to prevent communication with her family, and allegedly used hypnosis to manipulate her into compliance. Further investigation, he added, led officers to the victim’s mother, Esther Moses, who confirmed that her daughter had been missing since September 2, 2025, and that a report had already been filed with the Niger State Police Command.

Edafe confirmed that the victim has since been reunited with her family, while the suspect is in custody as investigations continue to determine whether there are other victims or accomplices.

In a separate operation, Edafe disclosed that operatives of the Eagle Net Special Squad, Asaba, working with the Nigeria Hunters Forest Security Service (NHFSS), raided Basket Market near Uromi Junction along the Asaba–Benin road on September 9, 2025.

“The raid, led by SP Yunusa Danyaya, resulted in the arrest of 27 adult suspects, all allegedly involved in criminal activities. A search of the premises led to the recovery of a locally fabricated cut-to-size gun and large quantities of illicit drugs,” he said.

He noted that preliminary investigations indicated the hideout was being used as a base where the suspects coordinated and executed criminal operations. All suspects are currently in custody, awaiting further investigation.
