SIR: I deeply appreciate the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a man I admire greatly and consider a political mentor. Long before his emergence as President, his governance style, leadership capacity, and vision for development had already earned my respect. Today, as he leads our nation, I remain convinced of his commitment to building a better Nigeria.
However, despite the commendable strides and numerous achievements recorded so far, there remains a major challenge that continues to hinder our collective progress. This challenge does not stem from the President’s vision, but from the manner in which enormous financial resources are being allocated to political office holders without proper accountability.
In the history of Nigeria, never have political leaders across states, constituencies, and local councils had access to this level of resources. Salaries, allowances, constituency funds, project allocations, and increased state revenues are more than ever before. Yet, there is little or no tangible change in the lives of the ordinary citizens. Instead of translating into development, many of these funds are being mismanaged, embezzled, or diverted, leaving the masses to continue suffering.
Mr. President, I know you understand grassroots politics better than many. Nigerians support leaders who genuinely improve their lives, not merely those who hold positions of authority. The governors, senators, and representatives are few in number compared to the millions of Nigerians whose daily struggles are worsening. The voices of the people, the masses, are what truly sustain democracy.
Therefore, I humbly appeal, it is time to hold governors, legislators, and all political leaders accountable for the enormous resources being placed in their care. Without proper checks, oversight, and enforcement, their actions will continue to undermine your efforts and vision for the country.
We also urgently need local council autonomy, so that development can reach the grassroots directly. The poor are struggling, and many feel as though they can no longer breathe under the weight of economic hardship. Nigerians are grateful for your leadership and the progress made so far, but we ask for more, especially in ensuring that resources meant for the people truly serve the people.
Mr. President, history will remember you as the leader who either allowed this system of unchecked enrichment to persist or the one who boldly corrected it in the interest of the masses. We are confident that with your courage and political wisdom, you can strengthen accountability, restore faith in governance, and deliver the Nigeria we all dream of.
God bless Mr. President. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
