Chief Executive Officer, Furalle Education Service, Stefanie Obiano, has called for reforms in the sector as part of efforts to attract international students.

Besides, she emphasised that the country’s education system must be tailored to give Nigerians a sense of accomplishment.

Obiano made the call in Lagos at a meeting to unveil the modalities for this year’s Global Education Fair.

Themed: “Reroute to purpose: Aligning passion, career and future, the highlight includes a global education showcase, workshops on career planning and digital skills, a scholarship navigation desk, a networking lounge and interactive counselling sessions.

The fair, scheduled to be held between October 30 and 31, will be attended by schools from Canada, the United Kingdom, Hungary, Turkey, and Poland, among others.

“While studying at the University of Lagos (UNILAG), we had a lot of people from outside Nigeria coming to study. We want to see that happen again. Many people don’t know that there is an opportunity to study and work. There is a need to harness this by bridging the gaps. The percentage of people going abroad is nothing compared to the number of people in Nigeria. We must not forget that vocational training plays a critical role in the economic development of any nation,” Obiano stated.

She lamented that most Nigerian youths are losing interest in learning by questioning the gains inherent in going to school.

“Every country that wants to be liberated must prioritise education, because it brings light into every aspect of our society. Both the government and private sectors must work together to ensure that education takes centre stage.

“We need more private operators to create opportunities. People must feel respected and fulfilled when going to school, and we must value those who excel when they graduate from school.

Head, Furalle Education Services, Ajiri Akpowomano, said the focus of the organisation is to ensure that every child is represented.
