Waka Community International Foundation said its programmes are inspiring tens of thousands of people worldwide, especially Nigerians, to adopt healthier lifestyles.
Speaking at the organisation’s fourth anniversary, founder Lorenz Mba explained that the wellness movement, now active in 48 countries, promotes walking, healthy eating, hydration, adequate rest, and mental health awareness.
Mba described Waka Community as a model of “glocalisation,” a movement born in Nigeria but resonating across continents. Its footprint now spans North America, Europe, and Africa, mobilising communities around simple but powerful wellness practices.
Marking what he called a historic milestone, Mba announced that Waka Community had become the first Nigerian organisation to independently feature on a Times Square billboard in New York City. The message, displayed at 1560 Broadway, Times Square, is expected to reach more than 330,000 pedestrians daily and generate over 1.5 million impressions.
“The billboard is more than information; it represents Africa taking its rightful place on the global stage,” Mba said, adding that the initiative shows how African-led community movements can influence international conversations on health and wellness.
He noted that the foundation’s journey, from the streets of Lagos to the lights of New York, underscored the global appeal of its vision. With the Times Square debut, he added, Waka Community is not only celebrating four years of impact but also affirming that African voices and solutions belong at the heart of global progress.
