Commissioner decries doctors’ absence during surprise visit

Zamfara State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Nafisa Muhammad Maradun, has expressed deep disappointment over the absence of doctors at Gusau General Hospital during an unannounced inspection.

The surprise visit, aimed at monitoring staff attendance and commitment, revealed that no doctors were on duty at the time.

Dr. Maradun, visibly displeased, warned that the state government would not tolerate absenteeism, especially in public health facilities where lives are at stake.

“If you are not ready to work, then you should leave. The Zamfara State Government will not tolerate absenteeism, particularly in our hospitals where citizens depend on timely and quality healthcare,” she said.

The Commissioner commended nurses and other staff members, who were present, for their dedication and urged them to continue providing diligent service to patients.

She also pointed out that Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration has made significant investments in renovating and equipping hospitals with modern medical facilities, stressing that such efforts must be matched by staff discipline and commitment.

Maradun expressed displeasure over the poor sanitation observed during the visit and vowed that her ministry would step up monitoring and supervisory visits to ensure accountability, improved hygiene, and better healthcare delivery across the state.

During the inspection, she visited key areas of the facility, including the Accident and Emergency Unit, Labour Room, and Pediatric Emergency Ward.
