Police recover human parts, foil firearms smuggling in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has reported significant breakthroughs in its ongoing intelligence-driven operations, including the arrest of a driver transporting illegal firearms and the discovery of human remains in a public transport vehicle.

In a statement, CSP Osifeso Adewale, the Police Public Relations Officer, said the successes reflect the effectiveness of intensified stop-and-search operations on major highways and critical intersections across the state.

On Thursday, September 18, 2025, around 9:11 p.m., officers from the Federal Highway Patrol stopped a Toyota bus (registration AFZ 933 XA) at the Toll Gate on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of two locally-made single-barrel firearms, two brand-new short stainless-steel machetes, and 20 live cartridges.

The driver, who could not produce a valid driver’s license or vehicle documents, was immediately arrested and is now in police custody along with the impounded bus.

In a separate operation on Wednesday, September 17, the police recovered a white Toyota Camry (registration LSD 957 JX), suspected to be stolen, along the Ogbomoso-Iseyin Road.

Disturbingly, suspected human flesh was found in the hand luggage of a passenger on a white commercial bus (registration XA 551 IRG).

“These back-to-back interceptions underscore the effectiveness of our proactive, intelligence-led strategy to disrupt criminal activities across the state,” said Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna.

He urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly, emphasizing that community cooperation is vital to maintaining peace and security in Oyo State.
