Princess Lara Oyekan-Olumegbon, Member representing Lagos Island 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has launched the third edition of her ‘Back to School for All’ program, aimed at supporting underprivileged students.
The initiative seeks to provide essential school supplies to over 5,000 students, fulfilling a 2023 campaign promise and aligning with the Renewed Hope agenda of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration.
The event drew community leaders, parents, and students, highlighting the lawmaker’s commitment to education and youth development.
Addressing attendees, Princess Lara emphasized the symbolic impact of the supplies: “Every notebook handed out today is a step forward in eradicating ignorance. Every pen is a weapon against poverty. Every school bag is a symbol of hope.”
She disclosed that she personally traveled to China to vet manufacturers and ensure quality, incorporating feedback from previous editions, such as trolley bags with lunch boxes and cartoon-themed supplies for younger children. The packages also include shoes, socks, and 12 exercise books per student.
The program has been widely praised for supporting national educational priorities, particularly those championed by First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
Lagos State APC Women Leader, Mrs. Jumoke Okoya, commended the initiative and urged parents to ensure their PVCs are ready to vote for leaders committed to delivering on promises.
Oluwafemi Asa, Assistant Director of Education at the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), highlighted the program’s impact on low-income families.
“She could have chosen personal gain, but instead she touched the lives of many pupils and parents today,” he said, encouraging the lawmaker to continue her work.
