DEF Jam Recording artiste, Adekunle Almoruf Kosoko, known professionally as Adekunle Gold or AG Baby, has responded to questions about the tracklist that surfaced on social media regarding his upcoming sixth studio album Fuji, which is set for release on October 3.
The singer in his latest post on the social media platform Snapchat cleared the air about the rumoured tracklist for his new album circulating on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
The response follows a fan’s query about the tracklists, whether it is the right one, which the multiple award-winning singer, affirmed it is the authentic tracklists. The tracklist, which had emerged on social media, revealed that the Orente singer is expected to feature heavyweight artistes such as Fuji legends K1 De Ultimate, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma; fellow Afrobeats star Davido, Miguel, Pharrell Williams and Swae Lee on the project.
The Afrobeats star also shared a surprising backstory behind his new song Simile, one of the songs on Fuji album. He stated that the song was originally written and recorded for Beyoncé’s 2019 project, The Lion King: The Gift, but didn’t make the final cut. Notwithstanding this, he decided to breathe new life into the track and include in Fuji.
According to him, Fuji album is deeply personal, as it reflects on his experiences over the past five years, including fatherhood, lost friendships, triumphs, and the pain of losing his father. He described it as his “greatest work yet” and his “boldest project” that seeks to revive and globalise the indigenous Yoruba Fuji sound.
In a lengthy post on the social media platform shared on Wednesday, September 10, Adekunle Gold confirmed that he would be releasing a new project he had been quietly working on. For him, the album represents a return to his roots and the original purpose of his music, telling stories.
“You’ve given me your ears and embraced every single phase I’ve embarked on. This phase is rooted in the very beginning of my journey, a return to the essence of why I started making music, to tell stories. Listen with open ears, because I won’t be revealing any features until you’ve experienced it for yourself. This is me, Adekunle Kosoko,” the post read.
Simile is one of the standout tracks on the Fuji album, and fans have already gotten a glimpse of what’s to come through singles like Coco Money and Bobo, both of which lean heavily into Fuji-inspired rhythms.
