Group equips 400 volunteers with skills in safety, others in Lagos

Refuge Network International (RNI), a non-profit organisation focused on improving the economy and social rights of vulnerable communities, has trained more than 400 volunteers across four centres in Lagos.

The training sessions, held between August 23 and September 20, 2025, took place in Ikotun, Agege, Yaba and Ajah. The organisation equipped participants with essential skills in safeguarding, ethics, safety, community health outreaches and effective engagement with beneficiaries.

Country Director of RNI, Benjamin Gimoh, said the exercise at Ajah marked the conclusion of the Lagos series. He stressed the importance of strengthening the organisation’s volunteer base through knowledge and values.

“Our volunteers are the backbone of our interventions. By equipping them with the right knowledge, skills, and values, we ensure that vulnerable communities receive the care and advocacy they deserve,” he said.

Volunteers at the centres described the programme as impactful, noting that it enhanced their understanding of service, humility and professionalism. RNI said it plans to extend similar training initiatives to other parts of Nigeria in the coming months.
