LG boss imposes curfew on Kabba
Two police officers and a passer-by have been confirmed killed by gunmen in Isanlu, Yagba East Local Council of Kogi State. Due to increasing insecurity in the state, the Chairman of Kabba/Bunu Local Council, Zacchaeus Michael, imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Kabba.
According to a reliable source, the two officers were shot dead yesterday. Confirming the attack, Chairman of Yagba East, Dr Joshua Monday, said: “The Executive Chairman of Yagba East received, with deep shock and profound grief, the sad news of the brutal killing of two gallant officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), attached to MOPOL 70, who lost their lives today, Sunday, September 21, 2025, in a deadly ambush by unknown assailants along Ilafin Road, Isanlu.
“This tragic incident is not only an attack on the NPF, but also an assault on the peace and security of our land. It represents a calculated attempt by enemies of progress to destabilise our society and instil fear in our people.”
He condoled the bereaved families, the Police Force and the wider security community, assuring them that their grief is shared, and their pain deeply felt by the people of Yagba East.
“These two officers of MOPOL 70 died in active service; they are martyrs of peace and guardians of justice. We must honour them not just with words but by ensuring their sacrifice is not in vain. The enemies of peace must be defeated, and Yagba East must continue to stand strong in unity and resilience,” he added while praying for the repose of the souls of the deceased.
Two police officers and a passer-by were shot dead at a checkpoint in Abugi village, Lokoja, yesterday. According to reports from the Abugi community, the gunmen, riding on a motorcycle, stormed the checkpoint around 10.30 a.m. and opened fire on the security operatives, killing them instantly.
Also, a young man whose identity is yet to be established was reportedly caught in the crossfire. Witnesses disclosed that the armed men shot sporadically to ward off any counterattack before seizing the policemen’s rifles and escaping to an unknown location.
A statement signed by the chairman of Kabba/Bunu and made available to The Guardian in Lokoja, yesterday, showed that the indefinite curfew will last from6.00 p.m. to 8.00 a.m. daily.
Dare said movement of persons and vehicles would be restricted within the curfew hours. The statement noted, “As the dust raised by the continuing killings in Yagba West and Yagba East is yet to settle, the Kabba/Bunu council authority, today, declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the area, following incessant killings in the locality. The curfew takes effect from Monday, September 22, 2025.
“The government of Kabba/Bunu has announced that all motorcycle operators, tricycle movement is now restricted to 6.00 a.m. to 7.00 p.m., while movement of persons and goods within the territory of the local council area is now between 6.00 a.m. and 8.00 p.m. daily.”
He vowed to lead the operation to every nook and cranny of Kabba/Bunu to flush out criminals, who had in recent times, embarked on a stabbing spree in the city and other parts of the local government area.
