Kolade Dominate is a Nigerian radio and television personality. Known in the industry as ‘Mr. Dominate of Radio,’ he has earned a superb reputation for being one of the most energetic radio hosts in the city of Lagos and for his eclectic combination of music, talk, and popular culture.
His work in the industry began as a radio DJ and later gained popularity across radio stations in Lagos for his distinct fusion of Afrobeat, global hits, and unapologetic chats. He is now recognized as one of the most constant and reliable voices to the residents of Lagos, winning fame as a cultural touchstone of the city and an influential music range-setter.
Kolade was born on October 8, 1992, in Ijebu, Ogun State. Dominate’s path into radio began after his secondary education at Mayflower School in Ikenne. He trained in presentation at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, now the National Broadcast Academy. He later earned a degree in digital multimedia technology from Highland College of Technology, along with mass communication degrees from the Institut Supérieur de Communication et de Gestion and the Université Protestante de l’Afrique de l’Ouest in Porto Novo, Benin Republic.
Dominate joined Star FM Lagos in 2013. A year later, he tested the waters of Nigeria’s music scene. In 2014, he released a refix of Rihanna’s Diamonds and, a few months later, his single Dominate, produced by Puffy Tee. The track gained national radio play and appeared on the MTN Y’ello Countdown Chart, broadcast across 52 stations. After leaving Star FM later that year, he paused briefly before returning with Dominate 2.0, a remix featuring Oritsefemi.
His radio career hastened. At Raypower FM Ibadan, he was elevated to Head of Production and Programmes. At Splash 105.5 FM, also in Ibadan, he hosted drive-time and entertainment shows, interviewing artists such as 2Baba, Tems, Fireboy, and Joeboy. He has since 2020 been part of the lineup at Inspiration 92.3 FM Lagos, hosting the station’s morning show.
Beyond the recording studio, he runs 10O8 World, a media promotion and talent management company he founded in 2018.
Dominate has received several industry awards, including “On-Air Personality of the Year” awards during several ceremonies. Peers commend his dependability on air and his ability to evolve as radio continues to contend with rising competition from digital media.
Though the nickname “Mr. Dominate” is one he assumed for himself, his career demonstrates the ways in which Nigerian radio is constantly reinventing itself — striking a middle ground between tradition and the demands of an ever-changing media environment.
