The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Sokoto State has arrested 51 suspected drug users in a series of aids across the Sokoto metropolis.
The two-day operation, carried out on September 20 and 21, targeted notorious smoking joints and drug dens at Ahmadu Bello Way, Raymond Village, Kwannawa, Danbuwa, Aliyu Jodi, Kware Market, Hajiya Halima, and Gangaren Dankure.
A statement by the agency’s Public Affairs Officer, Mohammed Dahiru, confirmed that the suspects comprised 40 males and 11 females, most of them aged between 18 and 21.
Items recovered during the raids included Cannabis sativa, Rohypnol, Hypnole, and smoking paraphernalia for crystal meth (ice).
Sokoto State Commander of the NDLEA, Mustapha M. Gidado, vowed that the agency would sustain its crackdown until the state capital was rid of illicit drug activities.
He urged parents to be vigilant over their children’s activities and warned that premises found to be harbouring drug activities risk being sealed and forfeited to the federal government.
