The Muslim Public Affairs Centre (MPAC) Nigeria has commended the Federal Government for reaffirming its commitment to the two-state solution and the rights of the Palestinian people, while urging that the position be matched with concrete action.
In a statement issued by its Executive Chairman, Disu Kamor, MPAC said it “warmly commends the unequivocal position of the Federal Government of Nigeria in reiterating the global consensus on the two-state solution, reaffirming the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to independence, freedom, and human dignity.” The organisation noted that the declaration was timely as the United Nations General Assembly convenes at what it described as a historic moment of global solidarity.
MPAC observed that more nations are recognising Palestine as a sovereign state, describing such moves as a long-overdue correction to decades of injustice endured by the Palestinian people under occupation, apartheid and systemic human rights violations. The group said these actions by the international community represent a significant step in the push for justice and should be complemented by stronger measures from countries such as Nigeria.
The statement emphasised that Nigeria’s stance reflects its proud history of supporting liberation struggles and standing firmly on the side of justice. It stressed that this legacy carries moral weight, but insisted that words alone are insufficient without bold measures to give meaning to the position taken.
To this end, MPAC outlined three critical actions for the government. First, it called for sanctions against Israel for what it described as relentless violations of international law, apartheid policies and war crimes against the Palestinian people. Second, it urged Nigeria to join South Africa’s case against Israel at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which seeks to hold Israel accountable for genocide and crimes against humanity. Third, it recommended the removal of Israel and Israeli institutions from Nigeria’s list of partners in security and intelligence-sharing efforts within counter-terrorism programmes.
The organisation stressed that the recognition of Palestine was not an act of benevolence but an obligation under international law. It added that the world could no longer ignore the plight of an entire people who remain denied freedom, security and their homeland.
Reaffirming its solidarity with the global movement for Palestinian statehood based on UN Resolutions and International Law, MPAC pledged to continue amplifying voices of justice. The statement concluded with a call to urgent action, insisting that justice delayed is justice denied.
