Edo activist arrested over confrontation with LP chairman Abure

Edo-based activist, Precious Oruche, popularly known as “Mama Pee,” has been detained by police following a heated confrontation with the factional National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The incident, which has gone viral on social media, has sparked mixed reactions and conflicting accounts from both sides.

According to eyewitnesses, Mama Pee accosted Abure as he prepared to board a Max Air flight to Benin, accusing him of being responsible for Nigerians’ hardship and the crisis within the Labour Party.

“Is this not Julius Abure? You’re the one frustrating Nigerians,” she reportedly said before continuing to berate him.

Upon arrival at Benin Airport, the situation reportedly escalated as Mama Pee was allegedly attacked by suspected thugs loyal to Abure.

A viral video shows a scuffle near the airport’s exit, with security and immigration officials intervening.
In one of her video recordings, Mama Pee claimed she was assaulted.

“They want to beat me after I told Julius Abure he is frustrating Nigerians. He brought thugs to harass me,” she alleged.

Another activist, Peter Akah (“Peter for Nigeria”), called for her immediate release in a video message, appealing to Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebolo, and the State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, to intervene.

He described Mama Pee as a victim of political violence who had been wrongfully turned into a suspect.

Meanwhile, the Abure-led LP faction condemned what it described as an “unwarranted attack” on its chairman. In a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Obiora Ifoh, the party alleged that Mama Pee publicly harassed Abure both in Abuja and on arrival in Benin, forcing security agents to escort him to safety.

It accused Mama Pee of boasting about her political connections and vowing to continue targeting Abure and LP executives.

The party called on the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the matter, describing the confrontation as cyberbullying and political provocation.

As of press time, efforts to reach the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Moses Yamu, were unsuccessful.
