More women than men have completed voter registration in Nigeria’s Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, according to data released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Figures published on INEC’s official X page showed that between 22 and 26 September, a total of 1,004,132 registrations were finalised. Of this number, 555,077 were women, representing 55.28%, while 449,055 were men, representing 44.72%.
INEC further disclosed that 537,743 of the registrations were completed online, while 466,389 were done at physical centres.
The data also highlighted that youths aged 18 to 34 accounted for 742,379 of the registrations, while students made up 354,406, and persons with disabilities (PWDs) recorded 13,987.
In a separate update covering the sixth week of online pre-registration (22–28 September), INEC reported 6,232,673 pre-registrants. Of this figure, 3,250,338 were women (52.15%), while 2,982,335 were men (47.85%). Youths again formed the majority with 4,230,715 pre-registrants, while students totalled 1,565,824, and PWDs accounted for 137,865.
The two sets of figures confirm that women are registering in greater numbers than men at both the pre-registration and completed registration stages of the CVR exercise.
INEC said the data will continue to be updated weekly and urged all eligible citizens who have not registered to take advantage of the online platform or visit designated registration centres.
The CVR exercise is part of preparations for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
